“Jesus departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.” (Luke 6:22)

Dear all,
Here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. Luke 6:12-19.

Jesus departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground. A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tire and Sidon came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.
Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him because power came forth from him and healed them all.

And this is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.

Power came forth from Jesus to heal all

It’s excellent that Jesus departs to the mountain to pray, and He spends the night in prayer to God. After praying, He chooses twelve men to be His friends and apostles. He chooses very ordinary people who are the common people. They do ordinary things and have no special education. He chooses them to serve others.
The Lord calls us, ordinary people, to proclaim His Kingdom.

The Gospel also proclaims that after choosing His apostles, He comes down with them and stands on a stretch of level ground to heal people seek Him. We read in the Gospel, wherever Jesus goes the people come to Him because they have heard all the things He has done.

Here, we can learn from those who are hungry for God and desire healing from their afflictions. In faith they touch Him and Jesus heals them. Even demons tremble in the presence of Jesus. He offers freedom from the power of sin and oppression to all who seek him with expectant faith.

Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist is our best way to be with Jesus prayer day and night. There, we hear God’s word and consider all that Jesus has done in our life. How do we respond it? Do we have an expectant faith to (pray with) Him? Let’s ask the Lord to increase our faith in His saving power and grace to heal us, now and forever. Amen.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, You give us an example how to pray well. May we follow You. Inflame our heart with a burning love for you. Give us an expectant faith to You, now and forever. Amen.
