murid takutDEAR my friends, here is the Gospel for us today according to Mark 4:35-41 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great storm of wind arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care if we perish?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?” And they were filled with awe, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?” This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. *** The Gospel today proclaims about Jesus’ disciples feared for their lives even though their Lord and Master was with them in the boat. They were asleep to Jesus Christ while he was present to them in their hour of need. Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?” From the Gospel today we learn that the Lord is ever present to us. In our time of testing he asks the same question: Why are you afraid? Have you no faith? Do we recognize the Lord’s presence with us, especially when we meet the storms of sorrow and temptation? When we encounter trouble, Jesus Christ, the Lord is there with the same reassuring message: “It is I, do not be afraid.” In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship and ask Jesus Christ faith. There we trust in him that his love strengthens us in our faith and enables us to act with justice and kindness towards our neighbor even in the face of opposition, rejection and temptation. Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, increase our faith in your redeeming love and power that we may always recognize your abiding presence with us. Give us courage to do your will in all circumstances now and forever. Amen.
