MY daily reflection and prayer: Saturday, April 11, 2015: The Octave of Easter DEAR my friends, Here is the Gospel for us today according to John Mark 16:9-15 Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. And he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.” This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. *** St. Mark gives us a summary of the resurrection of Jesus Christ for us. The first to see the risen Jesus Christ was Mary Magdalene, a woman noted for her demonized living! As we know her well, she has been forgiven much, and so she loves Jesus Christ, her Master greatly. She was first at the tomb to pay her respects. But she met the risen Christ and was sent to tell the disciples that Jesus Christ has risen. Unfortunately for the disciples, they would not believe her witness of the Risen Lord. Jesus Christ had to scold his disciples because of their unbelief and stubborn hearts. After his appearance to his disciples, the Risen Jesus Christ commissions them to go and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He gives them task to proclaim the good news of salvation, not only to the people of Israel but to all the nations. This is the great commission which the Risen Jesus Christ gives also to his church, today. In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist in some extent we have a share in this task to be heralds of the good news and ambassadors for Jesus Christ, the only savior of the world. He does not left us alone in this task, for the risen Lord works in and through us by the power of his Holy Spirit. Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, may we to be witness to others the joy of the Gospel and the hope of you resurrection. May we are like Mary Magdalene who are quick to run to you and giving you great respect now and forever. Amen.
