Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Matthew 13:18-23
Jesus Christ says, “Hear then the parable of the sower. When any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart; this is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the word and understands it; he indeed bears fruit, and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
YESTERDAY we read Jesus Christ’s word, “Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.” Now for today Jesus Christ says; “He who hears the word and understands it; he indeed bears fruit, and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
What does it mean? God’s word can only take root in our receptive hearts which are ready to hear what God has to say. When we have receptive hearts for his word, we will reap abundant fruit.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while worshipping Jesus Christ, we learn to be good listeners for his words. We pray that we are teachable and eager to learn God’s truth in our daily lives. There we learn to submitting to God’s word with joy and trusting obedience.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help us to guard the word you have planted in our heart that no doubt or temptation may keep us from believing and obeying you. May we be fruitful in your service. May we never fear to speak of you to others and to share with them the joy of the gospel forever and ever. Amen.
