Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Matthew 11:20-24
Then he began to upbraid the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
LET’S contemplate that Jesus Christ visits us today. What will he say to us? Will he warn us like he warns Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum? How will we respond?
Surely, Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum are blessed with the visitation of Jesus Christ. Jesus proclaims to them the good news and shows the wonderful works to them, but unfortunately, they do not trust in him. They hear the Gospel but they very likely responded with indifference. It’s why Jesus so upset with them.
The goal of all of Jesus’ signs is to bring about a change of heart. The signs and wonders worked by Jesus are intended to elicit a response of faith and trust from them. Jesus wants to bring them into deeper union with him. He wants them and also each of us to heed the call to repent. It demands a change of our heart and our way of life.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who visits us with his wonderful love. He blesses us all with his mighty works. Let’s trust in him.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, your word is life-giving and it saves us from the destruction of heart, mind, and soul as well as body In love, you call us to walk in your way of truth and freedom, grace and mercy, justice and holiness. May we receive your word with faith and obedience. Give us a true faith, a certain hope and a perfect love so that we may do everything in fulfilment of your holy will now and forever. Amen.
