The Third Week of Easter
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to John 6:30-35
So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, `He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world.” They said to him, “Lord, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
What Jesus says in the Gospel today is very clear. He says, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.”
Do we thirst and hunger for Jesus Christ, the bread of life? How can we come to him and do believe in him, the bread of life?
Jesus has clearly made the claim that he is the bread of life. The bread of life which Jesus offers is none else than the very life of God himself. This is the true bread which can truly satisfy us, our souls and hearts.
We can receive Jesus Christ as the bread of life by celebrating the Eucharist. There, we believe in him, the truly bread of life as the bread of the Eucharist which Jesus offers us. It gives us the abundant supernatural life of God which sustains us both now and for all eternity.
Exactly, when we receive the Eucharist from the Lord’s table we unite ourselves to Jesus Christ. He makes us sharers in his body and blood and partakers of his divine life every time we celebrate the Eucharist.
We really hunger for Jesus Christ and for the bread of life, the food which produces everlasting life not only in the Eucharist but also in Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we believe that you are the bread of life. It’s only you can satisfy the hunger in our souls and hearts. May we always find in you, the true bread of life from heaven in the Eucharist and Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist now and forever. Amen.
