MY daily reflection and prayer: Wednesday, September 24, 2014
Here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. Luke 9:1-6
Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”
Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the Good News and curing diseases everywhere.
And this is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.
The Gospel today proclaims that Jesus gives His apostles both power and authority to speak and to act in His name. We believe that Jesus’ word has power to change and transform our lives. He sends His apostles to cast out evil spirits, to heal, and to speak the word of God.
Jesus teaches us to trust in Him and believe that God gives His power and strength to those who rely on Him only. That Jesus sends the apostles to travel light with little or no provision, it means that He wants us to be dependent on Him and not on ourselves. He sends us to work for His glory.
Jesus entrusts us with His gifts and talents. Let’s place ourselves at His service, to do whatever He gives us, and to witness His truth and saving power to whomever He sends us.
In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we pray that we are ready to handle the power and authority which God wishes us to exercise on His behalf. We ask Him to encourage us to witness His love.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, make us a channel of Your grace and healing love that others may find life and freedom in us. Free us from all other attachments that we may joyfully pursue the things of heaven. May we witness to others the joy of the gospel both in word and deed, now and forever. Amen.
