MY daily reflection and prayer: Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. Luke 10:38-42.

Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speaks. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.”

The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.

The Gospel today proclaims Jesus who visits the home of Martha and Mary. We see then two very different characters in Martha and Mary. Martha is very busy to serve Jesus with her anxious manner of waiting on Jesus. Mary, in her simple and trusting manner, sits attentively at His feet, listening Him.

How often are we so busy, worry, and anxious with many things. It keeps us from listening and from giving our undivided attention to Jesus. He invites us to give Him our concerns and anxieties. He is the only trustworthy and able to give any need we have. Just one we must do, let’s the Lord find a welcomed and honored place in our lives.

Jesus says to Martha, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.” It means Jesus desires that we make a place for Him, not only in our hearts, but in our homes and in the daily circumstances of our lives as well.

By worshipping Jesus in Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we honor Him. There, we offer to him everything we have and everything we do by sitting at his feet and listening to him speaks in our heart. Jesus, in turn, blesses us with His gracious presence and fills us with joy.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, to be in your presence through Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist is life and joy for us, especially for me. Free us from needless concerns and preoccupations that we may give You our undivided love and attention in prayer, now and forever. Amen.
