MY daily reflection and prayer: Wednesday October 8, 2014
Dear my friends, here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. Luke 11:1-4.
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.”
Jesus does not only pray but also teaches us to pray to His Father. He gives us an excellent prayer. We call it the Our Father or the Lord’s Prayer. In the prayer, Jesus treats us as Father’s sons and daughters.
Jesus’ prayer tells us about God and about our identity. First of all, it tells us that God is our Father in heaven. He is eternally Father by His relationship to Jesus as His only Son who, reciprocally is Son only in relation to his Father. Secondly, in Jesus Christ we are reborn as His sons and daughters and also become the children of God.
We call God our Father for Jesus Himself teaches us to address Him as “our Father who are in heaven”. Even, we can confidently ask Him for the things we need to live as His sons and daughters.
In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we pray with expectant faith in the name of Jesus Christ to our heavenly Father. There, we believe that our Father truly loves us and He treats us as His beloved children. Through His grace and power we can love and serve one another as Jesus wants to.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, every time we ask You for help, You respond us with Your grace and mercy. You have given us a mind to know God, as our Father. Give us today the grace and strength to embrace your holy will. Help us to be kind and forgiving towards our neighbor as You have been towards us, now and forever. Amen
