MY daily reflection and prayer: Friday, January 23, 2015
Dear my friends, here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Mark 3:13-19
Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles, that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach and to have authority to drive out demons: He appointed the Twelve: Simon, whom he named Peter; James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alpheus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
Based on the Gospel today we can ask ourselves what is God’s call on us? Jesus has appointed twelve men for the task of preaching the kingdom of God, healing the sick and witnessing the joy of the Gospel.
Jesus Christ chose very ordinary people to do extraordinary things. This is a characteristic feature of God’s work.
Jesus Christ chose them from the common people who did ordinary things, had no special education, and no social advantages. But he wanted the ordinary people to do his works extraordinarily well.
In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who has chosen and called us to serve him and others. He takes us as ordinary people to work greatness in his kingdom. Let’s make our lives an offering to the Lord and allow him to use us according to his will.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, fill us with gratitude and generosity for all you have done for us. Take our lives and all that we have as an offering of love for you and for others now and forever. Amen.
