MY daily reflection and prayer: Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. Luke 8:19-21.

The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.”

He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”

And this is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.

From the Gospel today we understand that Jesus gives us an excellent opportunity for developing our relationships with family and friends in Him. It seems that He ignores His own relatives when they pressed to see Him. But in fact, His love and respect for His mother and relatives is very clear and unquestionable.

Jesus teaches us a spiritual lesson and truth about the new family and friendship in relation with the Kingdom of God. He shows and points to a higher reality of relationship and family namely our relationship with God and with those who belong to Him.

From the Gospel today we know that being a Christian as a new family in the name of Jesus Christ is more than accepting doctrine, precepts, and commandments. First of all and foremost, it’s a new and blessed relationship of trust, affection, commitment, loyalty, faithfulness, kindness, compassion and mercy by doing His will. It’s also relationship of support, strength, helpfulness, encouragement, protection, and so many other qualities that bind people together in mutual love and unity in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we give our thanks to the Lord who adopts us to become the members of the new family as the children of God. We pray and ask to Him that we can do His will well because whoever does the will of God is a member of His family.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for Your word today. You remind us that we become the sons and daughters of heavenly Father by doing His will. Help us to do the best His will in our lives. Send Your Holy Spirit to transform our heart, mind, and will to enable us to do God’ will, now and forever.
