MY daily reflection and prayer
Wednesday, October 1, 2014:
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. Luke 9:57-62.
As Jesus and his disciples were proceeding on their journey, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.”
And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” Jesus answered him, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God.”
And this is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.
“Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.”
What does it mean this word for us? First, this word of Jesus is very impressed to my heart. It inspires me of total commitment in serving God and people.
Second, Jesus tells us what the cost to follow Him is. It requires sacrifice and spiritual detachment. It is a necessary step for following Jesus. We must give ourselves without reserve to Him.
Third, if we want to follow Him we have to freely left behind all. It means, there is nothing greater we can do with our lives than to place them all at the service of the Lord.
In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we adore Jesus who challenges us to follow Him totally and faithfully. While worshiping Him, we reflect on His promise: Whoever is willing to part with what is most dear to them for his sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. We adore Jesus who offers us an unending peace, joy, love, friendship, and abundant life.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, take and receive our liberty, understanding, and will. Give us only Your love and grace that we will be rich enough and will desire nothing more than following You, now and forever. Amen.
