MY daily reflection and prayer: Monday, September 15, 2014
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. John 19:25-27.
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
Yesterday we contemplated the Holy Cross of Christ. Today we contemplate the life of Mother Mary as Mother of sorrow. He stands near the Holy Cross of Christ and brings our sorrow to Him.
As we know it well, Jesus was crucified alone. All His disciples had left Him alone. Only His mother and three women along with John, the beloved disciple was present there at the cross. All the apostles except John had fled in fear.
With Mother Mary, love sustains us in hope through grieves and trials. She did not despair in her sorrow and loss, since her faith and hope were sustained by her trust in God and her love for her Son. She is the Mother of sorrow, Mater Dolorosa!
In Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we feel the love of Christ which enables us to bear all things make us sorrow.
As Jesus, in his grief and suffering, did not forget his mother and so does for us. Let’s worship Him who enables us to bear our cross and to endure trial and difficulties with faith and hope in God
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, by Your Holy Cross You have won pardon for us and freedom from the tyranny of sin and death. May we live in the joy and freedom of your victory over sin, condemnation, and death together with Mother Mary, the Mother of Sorrow, now and forever. Amen.
