Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St.Matthew 8:1-4

When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him; and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Gospel today we read a leper who approached Jesus Christ confidently and humbly, expecting that he would heal him. Among the Jews in the time of Jesus Christ, the lepers were outcasts of society. Their physical condition was terrible. They were even regarded as already dead also by their relatives. The Jewish law forbade anyone from  approaching and touching a leper.

But Jesus Christ approached them the unapproachables. He touched them the untouchables. Jesus gave them an ample room to come to him.

To a leper who came to him, Jesus Christ demonstrated the personal love, compassion, and tenderness of God in his physical touch. He communicated the love and mercy of God. It’s why he then touched the leper and made him clean both physically and spiritually.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we learn from the leper to come to Jesus Christ and approach him confidently and humbly, expecting that he heals us from our sins. We also ask him to grant us the fire of his love so that we may reach out to others with compassionate care and kindness, especially to the weak and the poor.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we come you and approach you confidently and humbly. We love you. Heal us from our sins. May we reach out to others with compassionate care and kindness, especially to the poor now and forever. Amen.
