MY daily reflection and prayer: Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Here is the Gospel for us today, according to St. Luke 11:37-41.

After Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home. He entered and reclined at table to eat. The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal. The Lord said to him, “Oh you Pharisees! Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil. You fool! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside? But as to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is very extraordinary! It’s why after hearing His preach, a Pharisee, invites Him to dinner. Why? No doubt, because he wants to hear more from this extraordinary Man who speaks the word of God as no one else has done before.

At the moment of having meal,
Jesus does not perform the ceremonial washing of hands before beginning the meal. When the Pharisee is amazed about it, Jesus then teaches him and says, “Oh you Pharisees! Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil. You fool! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside? But as to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.”

Of course, Jesus does not forget it. Rather, he wants to reveal something to the Pharisees about the cleanness of heart. Jesus challenges him to realize which is more important to God: clean hands or a clean mind and heart? He shows the Pharisees for harboring evil thoughts that make us unclean spiritually such as greed, pride, bitterness, envy, arrogance, and the like.

By worshipping Jesus in Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we learn to give freely and generously to those in need we express love, compassion, kindness, and mercy. We ask Him that our heart is full of love and compassion, that there is no room for envy, greed, bitterness, and the like.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, please, transforms our heart, mind, and actions toward our neighbor. Fill us with Your love and increase our thirst for holiness. Cleanse and deliver us from every evil that our hearts are clean and holy and freely and kindly love others, now and forever. Amen.
