“Whoever wishes to come after Me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me!” (Matthew 16:24)
Reading this word of Jesus, I ask to myself: How should I follow Jesus Christ, the Lord? And this is my answers.
First, I must deny myself. Second, I have to take up my cross. Last but not least, then, I follow Him every day faithfully.
Let’s contemplate what Jesus means. Jesus wants us to deny ourselves and to take up our cross for following Him. What is the cross which Jesus commands us to take up each day?
It’s the cross of Jesus which leads us to victory and freedom from sin, despair, and death. For taking the cross of Jesus faithfully we have to be ready to lose all for Him in order to gain all with Him as well.
We have to do what He wants. Even, when our will crosses with His will, then, His will must be done on us. Are we ready to lose all for Jesus in order to gain all with Him? Are we ready to deny ourselves, take up His cross, and follow Him!
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, make my shoulder stronger to take up Your cross as mine, then I am able to follow You faithfully each day. Grant me Your grace that I am able to follow You wherever You may go. Lord Jesus Christ, I wish to come after You and deny myself. Give me Holy Spirit that I can do it well, forever and ever. Amin.
